Homework is a very important part of a child's education and can add much to a child's overall development. At New Bishop Cotton, we see home learning as an important method of communication between teachers and parents.
One of the core aims of our school is for children to actively develop as independent learners. We firmly believe that homework is one of the key ways in which children can acquire the vital skill of independent learning. Home learning plays a positive role in raising a child's level of attainment.
We also acknowledge the profoundly important role of play and free time in a child's growth and development. Whilst set homework is important, it should not prevent children from taking part in out-of-school clubs that raise self-esteem.
From Nursery to Year 10, all children have a formal home/school liaison journal where clear expectations of weekly tasks are set. pupil, parent, and teacher can directly exchange comments.
Tasks are tailored to be age-appropriate, focusing on reading and talking in early years, and shifting toward independent research and problem-solving in higher grades.
