Attendance Policy

Maximizing Opportunities for Every Pupil

Attendance Policy

New Bishop Cotton School seeks to ensure that all its pupils receive a full-time education which maximizes opportunities for each pupil to realize his or her potential.

The school strives to provide a welcoming and caring environment wherein all pupils feel valued and secure. All school staff work together seamlessly as a family to ensure regular and punctual attendance.

The school has established an effective system of incentives and rewards to acknowledge the profound efforts of pupils and to constantly motivate them to maintain punctuality and regularity to school. These rewards actively challenge the behaviors of those pupils and parents who give a low priority to attendance and punctuality.

To continuously meet these objectives, New Bishop Cotton School has established an effective and highly efficient system of communication with pupils, parents, and appropriate agencies to provide mutual information, actionable advice, and dedicated support.

Aims of This Policy

  • To uphold the fundamental right of all children to attend school.
  • To make attendance and punctuality a primary priority for pupils, teachers, parents/caretakers, and Governors.
  • To comprehensively improve the overall percentage of pupils at school.
  • To develop a rigid framework which defines agreed roles and responsibilities and promotes absolute consistency in carrying out designated tasks.
  • To provide robust support, actionable advice, and clear guidance to parents/caretakers and pupils.
  • To develop a systematic, digital approach in gathering and analyzing attendance-related data.
  • To further develop highly positive and consistent communication between home and the school.
  • To aggressively promote effective partnerships with the Education Welfare Service and other relevant agencies and services.
